Description
The Externship at PsychExperts & Associates, Inc. provides hand-on training for student’s interested in providing assessment and/or treatment for both clinical and forensic populations.
-
The clinical aspect of the Externship involves providing psychotherapeutic services to individuals in underserved populations (e.g. Intake assessments, psychosocial interviews, and therapy).
-
The forensic aspect of the Externship involves conducting evaluations of individuals either in pre or post legal adjudication (e.g. competency, criminal responsibility, or mitigation).
-
Assessments typically include objective personality measures, cognitive testing, malingering tests, risk assessment, and may occasionally include neuropsychological measures. Evaluations are primarily conducted in correctional settings (e.g., detention facility); however, many are also conducted in one of the PsychExperts office locations or in the community.
-
The Extern can also expect to receive exposure to courtroom proceedings, as well as other didactic, and continuing education presentations and/or conferences.
-
Supervision is consistent with Maryland State “Psychology Associate” requirements (e.g. face-to-face individual and/or group weekly meetings with a licensed supervisor).
